The Parker Elementary School Band is in urgent need of your support. We are raising money to travel to New Orleans to perform at the Crescent City Music Festival. Their performance will be judged by a panel and with oral, written, and taped feedback on their performance. The children will also attend music workshops and perform at Preservation Hall, a historic landmark that is dedicated to the preservation of New Orleans Jazz. They will learn from older musicians (who are in their 70’s and 80’s) about this unique and purely American music genre.
The Parker Elementary Band continuously wins top honors in state and regional competitions. Being in the band teaches students the value of hard work, commitment and teamwork. These skills carry over into their academic studies and the students excel in mathematics and science.
Cynthia Ann Parker Elementary , Texas, is a TEA Exemplary School. As Houston’s original music magnet school, Parker has the honor of being named a Grammy Signature Elementary School.
Parker Elementary is a Title I public school, which means that the school serves mainly lower income families in our community. There is virtually no funding for a trip like this in the school budget. With your support, we can make sure that every child in the band is able to go on this exciting trip.
